We left Whitehore, Yukon and decided to go to Dawson City, now Dawson City is about 320 miles away and the road was pretty good and went through some nice scenery. Once you got to Dawson CIty, Yukon our plan was to go across the "Top of the World" highway and the Taylor Highway about 179 miles back out of Canada into the USA and stay the night at Tok, Alaska before driving the last 200 miles to Fairbanks, Alaska.
Now the "top of the world" and the Taylor Higway have pretty bad reputations but I did diligence and talked to alot of people and decided that we would not have trouble on the 50% gravel route.
:The alternative was another trip down the same 325 miles to Whitehorse and then North up a different route to Tok. Total mileage 720 miles so the 179 mile route across the mountains looked better and better.
The picture is the Damondtooth Gertie's Gambling Hall in Dawson City which was the highlight. The town was the goldrush town and there were old gold dredges everywhere. The streets in the town were dirt and the town was either broken down 1900 buildings or restored 1900 buildings. I like history but this place was so far out in the sticks that I just couldnt believe that people live here year around.
