The gold during the 1920-1940's was dug with these dredges. The gold is located in the gravel just above the bedrock, the overage or top layers had to be removed and then the gravel with the gold mined. The overage and excess gravel is called tailings and Jan and I rode out the (dirt) road where the mining was done and all you can see for miles is piles of rocks (tailings). This particular dredge was rescured by Canada and is being renovated to be a tourist location. We didnot get to walk through this although I wanted to in the worse way.
