We arrived at Mel's home about 330PM on Tuesday with the intention of staying two hours but soon found out that Mel had other plans so we went to dinner with Mel and Doris to a really good steak house where I had strip and Jan had Walleye, which I wish I had got. They also had fresh halibut but I figure I will get enough of that in Alaska.
It was 930Pm by the time we got home and they graciously had a bedroom ready for us. Their home was very nice and he has a separate studio that he showed us Wednesday morning before we left. Super visit, super people. Mel looks a lot like Jan's dad as they both had the same grandfather.
Something I failed to mention was that when we got home from eating it was snowing hard. It was still snowing the next morning with about 4 inches of wet snow on the ground.
We checked with the hotline for the condition of the roads and it was open to Billings with no issues. Montana and Wyoming do not use salt but grit and sand, they just do not ha ve the road issues as long as it doesnt drift because they have the equipment to handle snow.
We want to go to Cody, Wyoming and get back home through Yellowstone park and see the museum at Cody ( Buffalo Bill's) but when we left Mels, route 14 was reported closed over the mountain.
