IT SNOWED LAST NIGHT!!!!! It's just a dusting, but the roads are covered. That's why it was so cold and windy last night.
9:30 we left Mesa RV Park on rt#50 to head towards Montrose, Colorado. All of the State Parks are closed. The road has snow on it in spots, especially where it is shady. We crossed over the Blue Mesa Lake again. It is frozen and covers over 8000 acres. There is an underground hydro-electric power plant that you can visit in warmer weather.
We are on 6 miles of switchback roads with low viisibility due to blowing snow. Maybe we should have waited to leave. Too late now! We are so high up you can actually see the mountains over top of the clouds. The snowplows don't put salt on the roads; instead they spread grit- which is a very fine granite. No wonder our car and RV are filthy! The cows are huddled together in the fields to keep warm.
6900 elevation- the roads are dry now and no snow. It is like God drew a line, and didn't allow the snow to fall west of the line! Our mirrors are so dirty, we can't even see out of them. We are covered in ice, snow and grit!
5838 elevation-we're pulling into Montrose and a truck wash station. It took 45 minutes and $30. to get clean.
The RV Park is called Cedar Creek. They have a little different setup for the electric, sewage and cable. It's a good thing Daddy bought the longer cords in the beginning. We are wishing we had bought the little pressure washer just for RVs we saw in Nashville. It would have come in handy here.
We ate at "Garlic Mikes"; had escargot that was tender and sweet, spring mix salad with balsalmic vinegarette, chicken marsala and shrimp scampi. Totally delicious!
