Autumn Trip; Friday, Oct. 22, 2010.
Leaving by 9:25 AM will allow us to arrive in Herndon, Virginia by lunchtime. We will visit with our friends from the Antarctica trip for the week end. The weather is crisp and very sunny. We should start seeing some deer and some leaves turning colors. I wish I had not forgotten my camera and winter jacket. I can buy a jacket, but the camera will be much more money. I also forgot my evening bag for Anna's wedding. Outlet shopping here I come!!!
Autumn Splashed Leaf Trip- October 21, 2010.
Thursday, October 21st:
We had planned to be on the road by 7 AM; but we overslept probably because of all of the last minute things that required doing. Forgetting to turn on the refrigerator early on Tuesday made it impossible to load the refrigerator Wednesday night and the food remain cold. But we were able to leave by 8:17 AM! I thought that was pretty good. We were at the Georgia line by 9:45 and the South Carolina line by 2:15 PM. We are making good time. The traffic is not bad at all. We ate a late lunch at Cracker Barrel in Walterboro, South Carolina; a late light supper at a subway in Petersburg, Virginia; and stayed the night on a Wal Mart parking lot.it became chilly overnight and the RV got down to 63 degrees by 7 AM. It felt GREAT!!!!

Our five month trip to Alaska was absolutely phenomenal! It was everything we expected and more. I had no idea really how BIG Alaska is! We hardly did 1/1000th of Alaska. So much of Alaska is not reachable by road. Now we need to plan another trip to reach those other spots. We have considered flying to Anchorage in March when they run the iditarod from there to Nome. Of course it'll be really cold and dark that time of year; but that's Alaska. In June we are planning to take a cruise there with our best friends John and Julie. On a cruise we will be able to see Sitka, the old Russian Capitol and one of the first cities built there,; Ketchikan on the inside passage; Kodiak Island, which will be a highlight of the trip. On another trip there we will need to take the ice highway north to Prudhoe Bay to see the oil operation. We have been told to rent a car to do that because the highway will tear up your car. And we also have to go back to go fishing!!! Maybe we will be able to perfect the skill of cast fishing while standing in the river with waders on!!! Time will tell!!!
